Model-Driven Development for the .NET Community

Release of tangible® architect 2.0 - Tool accelerates development of database applications by automatically generating up to 70% of the code based on models

Notzingen, Germany - June 2005 - Software maker tangible engineering announced the release of tangible® architect 2.0, a significantly improved version of its model-driven code generator for Visual Studio®.NET. With a complete overhaul, numerous new features and enhanced usability, tangible architect 2.0 now offers software developers and IT departments a unique and easy-to-use solution to accelerate the development of database solutions. A free trial version is available at www.tangible.de.

Bjoern Borgsdorf, CTO of tangible engineering, explained the basic principles of tangible architect: "With tangible architect, software developers define their business objects using an UML Model, tangible architect class view wizards or C# Interfaces. tangible architect then generates the business objects including data access code from within Visual Studio.NET. Thereafter, the user can extend the business objects and bind them to the presentation layer using Data Binding. In doing so, hand-crafted code size is reduced by up to 70%. Special care was taken to meet the requirements of all core team member roles of software development teams, such as Software Architect and User Interface Designer."

"Obviously, the resulting cost savings are huge," said Tim F. Fischer, founder and CEO of tangible engineering. "In addition, thanks to the improved overall code quality of the application, error rates are reduced and maintainability is significantly enhanced."

Product Highlights
tangible architect seamlessly integrates with Visual Studio.NET and offers an impressive set of features, including UML support, Business Object Generation, Database Schema Generation, Data Binding and an included Object Oriented Database Browser.

  • In contrast to typical UML CASE tools, tangible architect generates a full business object implementation including data access code from C# interface definitions or UML.
  • Thanks to O/R Mapping, tangible architect takes care of the translation of tables into objects, eliminating the need for error-prone SQL programming.
  • tangible architect deliberately focuses exclusively on the .NET platform to ensure that the generated code is highly optimized and quality assured.
  • Each team member role - Architect, Business Logic Developer, User Interface Developer and Tester - is supported with powerful features.
  • Compliance with industry best practices such as separation of Business Logic from the User Interface and Data Access code.
  • Reliable transactions based on a connection-oriented architecture with pessimistic locking guarantee a seamless multi-user operation.

New Features and Packaging
In addition, the new release now offers enhancements for generic user interface development and components, and an enhanced UML modeling support including a new packaging: tangible architect is now available as a bundle with Enterprise Architect, the award-winning UML modeling tool of Australian software maker Sparx Systems. Enterprise Architect is a comprehensive UML 2.0 compliant analysis and design tool that covers all stages of software development from requirements gathering to the analysis stages and design models through to testing and maintenance. It also provides MDA-style transformations. For more information, please go to www.sparxsystems.com.au.

Model-Driven Development for a Broad Audience
"More and more software developers are beginning to see the advantages of model-driven development," Tim F. Fischer said. "With our prices starting at $250, it’s clear that we’re targeting a broad audience of software developers. We’ve invested much to build a best-in-class product which can easily bear comparison with products that are five to ten times more expensive. We’re confident that no matter how big or small your project is, tangible architect will help you to save a lot of time and reduce costs!"

Pricing and Availability
tangible architect integrates with Visual Studio.NET and Microsoft® SQL Server 2000 or the free MSDE 2000 and is available in three different editions, with prices ranging from US$ 250 to US$ 750. Buyers of tangible architect 2.0 are entitled to a free upgrade to tangible architect for Visual Studio.NET 2005 once available.
